Phonics拼读法(母语不用音标)

In English, there are around 44 phonemes (sounds), but there are around 250 graphemes (letters or letter groups that correspond to a single sound).
This is because every phoneme (sound) corresponds to more than one grapheme (letter or letter groups) across different words.
For example, the phoneme /f/ has four graphemes: f (as in funny), ff (as in puff), ph (as in photo), and gh (as in laugh).
The phoneme /ī/ has five graphemes: i (as in kind), igh (as in night), i-e (as in bite), y (as in try) and ie (as in pie).
Exactly because there is no one-to-one correspondence between phonemes and graphemes, children need systematic phonics instruction in order to learn the most
common phonemes for each grapheme and the most common graphemes for each phoneme. This will enable them to decode (read) and encode (spell).

decode process (reading)
==包含:segment和blend==
1:What are phoneme segmentation skills?
Phoneme segmentation is the ability to break words down into individual sounds.
For example, the learner breaks the word run into its component sounds – r, u, and n.
2:What is sound blending?
Sound blending is the ability to build words from individual sounds by blending the sounds together in sequence.
For example, the learner blends the sounds m, o, m to form the word mom.

What Are the Steps for Decoding?
The steps for decoding an unfamiliar written word are as follows:
Segment the word into individual letters/groups of letters. Say each sound separately if need be.
Use phonics knowledge to work out how each of the letters/groups of letters sounds.
Blend the sounds together to form the word.
Examples of Decoding in Reading
Example 1: Cat
This word can be separated into three letters/letter groups: c-a-t
The sounds associated with each letter are: ‘c’, as in ‘cap’, ‘a’ as in ‘apple’, ‘t’ as in ‘tea'
When we blend those sounds together, we get “cat”.
Example 2: Automatic
This word can be separated into eight letters/letter groups: au-t-o-m-a-t-i-c
The sounds associated with each letter are:
‘au’ as in ‘awful’
‘t’ as in ‘tea’
‘o’ as in ‘own’
‘m’ as in ‘mat’
‘a’ as in ‘apple’
‘t’ as in ‘tea’
‘i’ as in ‘in’
‘c’ as in ‘cap’ When we blend those sounds together, we get “automatic”.
